High-performance box IPC with Intel® QM57 chipset for installation in a control cabinet

DSM Computer's new Galaxy® G4-QM57 control cabinet PC integrates the Intel® Core™ i5-520M processor clocked with 2.4 GHz, and the Intel® QM57 chipset. In addition to the standard version, a higher-performance model with the Intel® Core™ i7-620M (2.66 GHz) and a lower-cost system with the Intel® Celeron™ P4500 Dual Core CPU are available as options. The fast, standard 4 GB DDR3 RAM main memory (800/1066 MHz) can be expanded to a maximum capacity of 8 GB.

The robust Galaxy® G4-QM57 is designed specially for the harsh industrial environment. Thanks to its compact size of 149 x 260 x 280 mm, the computer can be installed flexibly in a control cabinet. To permit the fast access to all components, the drive bay and the connections are located on the front side of the industrial housing. Two 8-cm temperature-controlled system fans ensure the optimum ventilation of the housing, irrespective of the positioning of the control cabinet. The operating temperature range is 0° to +45° C.

To expand the system with short, commercially-available supplementary modules, e.g. for CAN bus and other fieldbus cards, or with customer-specific controller cards, the control cabinet PC provides three free PCI slots and one PCI Express™ x1 slot. As an option, four PCI slots can also be implemented. The 3.5-inch drive bay is designed to accept a 160 GB, 3.5-inch SATA II 300 standard hard disk (or larger). The housing provides space for one 2.5-inch HDD or SSD (Solid State Drive). As an option, a 2.5-inch HDD, a Compact Flash or an SSD can be installed in the 3.5-inch drive bay instead of the HDD. The Galaxy® G4-QM57 also provides an internal mini-PCI Express™ x1 slot.

The control cabinet PC provides a wide range of interfaces, including ten USB 2.0 ports (eight external and two internal), a serial RS232 port, HD audio and two fast GigaBit LAN interfaces. On request, Wireless LAN 802.11b/g/n can also be supported. As an option, four serial ports (three of which are on the slot plate) can be implemented. VGA, DVI-I and DVI-D with a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels are available as graphic interfaces.

A built-in 180 W power pack with 100 – 240 V input voltage or optionally a 24 VDC power pack with 200 W rating supplies power to the box IPC. The control cabinet PC is installed in a solid, high-quality industrial housing that, on request, can be supplied in any color requested by the customer, even with the company logo.

Bluebook® 2012 from DSM Computer with the new hybrid-cooled high-end IPC

DSM Computer provides a clear overview of its complete standard product portfolio with many innovations in the updated 2012 edition of its "Bluebook®". New additions include the hybrid-cooled ARCTIS™ high-end IPC family, the first Nanoserver® embedded system of the second generation, compact DIN rail-mounted PCs as well as the ultra high-performance Infinity® 19-inch industrial computer and slot CPUs with Intel® Core™ processors.

Because the industrial computers and display systems slightly-modified for DSM and also developed customer-specific on the basis of standard products described in the Bluebook® are becoming ever more important, the first pages of the color catalog cover this topic. Not only the manufacturing process established at the Munich location, but also the workflow of an individual project solution optimized to the customer requirement, are described here. The foreword from DSM CEO Axel Schäfer under the slogan "We can implement your project quickly" is augmented with a short description of some successfully developed customer products.

The ARCTIS™ IPC family which, despite its extremely high computing and graphical performance, is designed for operation in dusty environments in accordance with the IP50 degree of protection, is one of the many interesting innovations described in the product catalog. This is achieved with an innovative hybrid cooling concept that avoids the need for air exchange from the exterior to the interior of the device. The hybrid cooling concept in the operating temperature range 0° to 45° C allows even the dissipation of the heat produced by ultra-high performance processors. The high-end version of the A1-QM67 integrates the second-generation Intel® Core™ i7-2710QE processor with four cores, although other processor variants are possible. The Intel® QM67 is used as chipset.

With the N1-QM67 embedded system, DSM Computer presents its first member of the NanoServer® family of the second generation. The high-performance industrial computer also integrates a state-of-the-art Intel® Core™ processor and the energy-saving Intel® QM67 mobile chip set. The computer so provides high performance while offering optimized energy efficiency compared with the previously available NanoServer® models. For sophisticated image processing tasks, the Box IPC can be extended via a free PCI Express™ x16 slot with a graphic card or a frame-grabber.

DSM Computer has extended its compact H1-A rail-mounted PC family with a higher performance variant that incorporates an energy-saving Intel® Atom™ processor Z530. The standardized installation capabilities allow the computer that is 90 mm high and only 41 mm (55 mm with cooling fins) deep to be installed very quickly in an electrical-equipment or switchgear cabinet.

High-end hybrid-cooled embedded system, also for environments subject to dust

DSM Computer presents at the embedded world in Hall 1, Booth 254, the first member of its new ARCTIS™ IPC family the A1-QM67 which, despite its extremely high computing and graphic power, is designed for operation in dusty environments. This is achieved with an innovative hybrid cooling concept that avoids the need for air exchange from the exterior to the interior of the device.

To ensure the optimum cooling of the system, two heat pipes conduct the heat generated by the CPU with integrated graphic directly to two large heat sinks on the exterior of the device. The internal fan guarantees the optimum heat transmission to the internal wall of the housing and so prevents hot spots. The ARCTIS™ industrial computer has a completely closed housing designed to conform to the IP50 degree of protection. The rated operating temperature range is 0° to 45° C.

The hybrid cooling concept allows even the dissipation of the heat produced by ultra-high performance processors. The standard version of the A1-QM67 integrates the second-generation Intel® Core™ i5-2510E processor with two cores and clocked with 2.5 GHz. A higher-performance model with Intel® Core™ i7-2710QE CPU (four cores), a system with Intel® Core™ i3-2330E with two cores and a lower-cost variant with Intel® Celeron™ G810 CPU are also available as options. The Intel® QM67 is used as chip set. The fast DDR3 RAM main memory can be expanded to a maximum capacity of 8 GB.

Despite its compact dimensions of 305 x 305 x 133 mm, the A1-QM67 has space for a PCI Express x16 slot to accept an additional short graphic card or a frame-grabber. The external display interfaces HDMI, DVI-I and DVI-D are available for the connection of high-resolution monitors. Eight USB 2.0 connections (four external, four internal), two external USB 3.0 connections and four serial ports (three RS232, one RS232/RS422/RS485) are augmented with an internal serial ATA for two SATA III and four SATA II devices. In addition to two GigaBit LAN sockets, a Wireless LAN 802.11b/g/n is supported on request. Furthermore, an internal Mini PCI Express™ x1 slot is provided for short modules.

As standard, the system is delivered with a 40 GB SSD, or alternatively also with a 2.5-inch industrial HDD. The small, dust-proof flap on the front side of the device covers an optional exchangeable plug-in unit for two 2.5-inch drives (SSD / Industrial HDD) or for embedded applications with low storage requirement, a CompactFlash socket for booting the operating system. The displaced rear panel of the A1-QM67 creates a cable duct for the easy attachment of the connection and interface cables.

The power is supplied to the ARCTIS™ computer from a 12 and 24 V DC wide-range power supply unit or an external 100 - 240 V AC power supply. The industrial computer has a low standby energy consumption and so satisfies the EuP/ErP directive.

Compact second-generation NanoServer® with the powerful Intel® Core™ processor

DSM Computer presents with the N1-QM67 embedded system its first member of the second-generation NanoServer® family in Hall 1, Booth 254 at the embedded world trade show. The high-performance industrial computer integrates an Intel® Core™ processor of the second generation and the energy-saving Intel® QM67 mobile chip set. The N1-QM67 so provides high performance while offering optimized energy efficiency compared with the previously available NanoServer® models.

The compact IPC N1-QM67 box with the dimensions 204 x 226 x 79 mm provides a free PCI Express™ x16 slot for expansion with a graphic card or a frame-grabber. This makes the system also ideal for demanding image-processing tasks. A short Mini PCI Express™ x1 slot is also available internally. The DVI-I, DVI-D and HDMI interfaces allow the connection of high-resolution displays that supply three independent images to three separate monitors.

In addition to the standard variant that integrates an Intel® Core™ i5-2510E processor with two cores, the NanoServer® N1-QM67 can optionally be supplied in further variants with Intel® Core™ i7-2710QE (four cores) or Intel® Core™ i3-2330E (two cores). As low-cost model, the embedded system can optionally be equipped with an Intel® Celeron™ G810 processor. The two Intel® Core™ i5-2510E and i7-2710QE CPUs integrate the Intel® Turbo Boost technology with which the processor is automatically over-clocked for applications that use just one core. Thanks to the implemented Intel® AMT 7.0 Active Management Technology, the high-end computer can be booted, managed and serviced remotely. The fast DDR3 RAM main memory can be expanded to a maximum capacity of 8 GB.

Together with the six USB 2.0 (four external, two internal), two USB 3.0 and four serial ports (three RS232, one RS232/RS422/RS485) interfaces, four Serial ATA for SATA II and two Serial ATA for SATA III devices are available as internal interfaces. In addition to two 1000 Base-T LAN interfaces, Wireless LAN 802.11 is also supported on request. The robust industrial housing provides space for two 2.5 inch hard disk drives (HDD) 24/7 (SATA II 300) or solid state drives (SSDs). One hard disk is directly accessible from a screwed-on base cover; the second hard disk is accessible from the housing cover. On customer request, a third hard disk can also be installed.

The N1-QM67 supports the Windows® XP, Windows® 7 (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows® Embedded Standard 7 and Windows® Embedded POSReady 7 operating systems. Support is also provided for Linux drivers. For embedded operating systems, the NanoServer® is also available with a flash device.

The flexible industrial computer obtains its power directly from a 12 V / 24 V DC power input (wide-range) or an external 100 - 240 V AC power pack. The active cooling of the system permits 0° - 50° C as rated operating temperature range.
