Energy-saving Panel PC with LED backlight
Increasing energy costs increase the environmental awareness of the industry. Under the slogan "Green IPC", DSM Computer AG presents the newly-developed Infinity® Panel PC "P5-A".
The compact panel system was designed for machine and plant control and for visualization tasks for POI/POS applications. The development focused primarily on the low power loss. This is achieved by using the Intel® Atom™ N270 processor with the Intel 82945GSE chipset and the ICH7M Southbridge. The processor operates at the 1.6 GHz clock rate. The so-called TDP (Thermal Design Power) of the Intel® Atom™ N270 lies at only 2.5 W and so less than 50% of expensive ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) processors. The main memory can be expanded to a maximum of 2 GB.
To further reduce the power consumption, the "P5-A" panel system possesses an LED backlight. This allows the display computer with rated 300 cd/m˛ to consume up to 20% less power compared with traditional computers. The CCFL backlight allows the lifetime at low temperatures to be significantly longer than for normal CCFL display solutions. The panel computer also possesses an energy-efficient power supply. The integrated 100 to 240 VAC power pack operates in the extended temperature range. A 24 VDC power supply is available as an option for the user.
The Infinity® "P5-A" possesses many interfaces, such as two LANs (GBit - 100 MBit), one USB 2.0, four COMs, accessible at the rear side of the computer. Depending on the application, an optional WLAN is also possible. To allow the connection of external devices, up to five USB interfaces are available on the side. For the data storage, the system can offer optionally a 2.5" hard disk, an SSD (Solid State Drive) and a Compact Flash. Optionally, the Panel PC can be supplied with touchscreen or an integrated DVD drive.
A VESA attachment simplifies the installation of the robust Panel PC. If the optional touchscreen is not required, a keyboard can be connected for the data input or the control.
The system operates in the extended temperature range of 0° to + 50° C and so is well-suited for long-term operation in the industrial environment.
