DSM Computer presents the first cabinet PC with Fieldbus interfaces
With the new family of "Galaxy" cabinet PCs, DSM Computer closes the gap between its 19-inch industrial PCs from the Infinity series and its embedded systems of the NanoServer series. The cabinet PC compact dimensions of only 175 x 315 x 270 mm (book format) means they can be mounted flexibly in various installation positions. A passive backplane provides one or alternatively four free slots for PCI cards for accepting a range of industry-specific plug-in cards.
Specially designed for automation tasks, the "Galaxy" integrates various Fieldbus modules, for example, for CANopen, InterBus and PROFIBUS. The independent Ethernet interfaces with 10/100 Base-T provided as two RJ45 sockets allow the cabinet PC to be used as the central unit of an Ethernet controller. The serial COM1/COM2 interfaces are configured as RS 232 or VGA, COM 3 / COM4 as RS232, RS 495/ 422 or 20 mA (TTY). Two PS/2 interfaces are provided for the connection of a mouse and a keyboard. The computer also provides four fast USB 2.0 ports and optionally a DVI connection.
A 2½-inch hard disk with a capacity of 40 GB or more serves as storage medium. CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R or, if required, DVD-RW, drives are also available.
The cabinet PC is based on the IPC479 base board and is equipped with the power-saving Intel® Pentium® M 745 processor with a clock rate of 1.8 GHz or alternatively with the Celeron® M 350 (1.3 GHz clock rate). The processor uses the Intel® 82855 GME chip set. In addition to a 32/64 MB frame buffer, main memory with a maximum size of 2 GB is integrated. A watchdog timer ensures the system reliability. Windows® 2000 Prof. MUI and Windows® XP Prof. MUI are supported as operating systems.
The mechanically stable, galvanized sheet steel housing of the "Galaxy" conforms to the IP20 degree of protection. Particular attention has been placed on the construction of the cabinet PC with regard to its resistance to vibrations, EMC interference, and shock. It meets the EN60068-2-6 (vibration loading), EN 60068-2-27 (shock loading ) test regulations, and the requirements of the electromagnetic conformance for devices used in the industrial environment, EN 61000-6-4 for interference emissions and EN 61000-6-2 for the interference immunity.
