DSM Computer presents the first NanoServer® with Core™ Duo and PCI Express® To allow the growing data volumes to be processed and transferred, DSM Computer AG has equipped its new "E6" NanoServer family with the powerful Intel® Core™ Duo processor and a fast PCI Express® interface. Thus, for the first time, the "E6" closes the gap between the complex industrial computers and the modern desktop systems and so enters the previously unattainable performance classes with many new high-end applications. The complex functionality is integrated in a high-quality industrial housing with the compact dimensions of only 206 x 220 x 110 mm. The heart of the "E6" server is a power-saving Mini-ITX motherboard that supports the Intel® Core™ Duo processor with a maximum clock frequency of 2.33 GHz. Both processor kernels use a performance-optimized 533 MHz or 667 MHz front-side bus to access the shared system memory with 4 GB as maximum memory capacity. To keep the heat loss as small as possible, the address and data buffer are switched off in the stand-by mode. In addition to the PCI Express® x1 slot, the NanoServer ruggedized for harsh industrial conditions also provides a 32-bit PCI and a mini PCI slot. The Intel 82562 LAN controller and Marvell 88E8053 PCI Express® integrated on the board permit the establishing of a fast 10/100/1000 Base-T LAN network connection. Indeed, the Mini PCI slot can be used to realize a WLAN and a Dual-Ethernet network or a Bluetooth connection. Six USB 2.0 ports are provided for communication with peripheral devices or for attaching a diskette drive or CD/DVD-ROM drive. The Intel® Core™ Duo processor uses the Intel® 82945GM chip set. The integrated high-performance graphic chip is suitable for use with high-resolution video streams; the output can be made parallel to two separate monitors. The VGA memory capacity is 224 MB (shared). The maximum resolution is 1600 x 1200 pixels with a picture horizontal refresh frequency of 85 Hz. In addition to the S-Video and a composite TVout interface, the module has an analog or digital audio interface. Two SATA-II ports (300 MB/s) permit the mass storage of serial data without requiring any complex cabling. An Enhanced IDE connection is provided for fast data transfer. The Windows® XP Embedded operating system that runs on the "E6" NanoServer® supports symmetrical multiprocessing (SMP) and consequently makes optimum use of the hardware.
